The Miami Dolphins’ safety and health status is on the verge of a bye

The Miami Dolphins have almost two weeks before they face the Indianapolis Colts. For several players who need time to heal from minor injuries, the bye week came at the right time.

That’s especially important for the Dolphins when it comes to the safety position, where both of their starters are dealing with injuries.

Jordan Poyer missed Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots due to a shin injury he sustained against the Tennessee Titans last Monday night.

“I feel good about where Poyer was today and I feel good about the time we have until our next game,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said. “We’re just confident in where Poyer is at. And we’re not going to worry about the schedule because I definitely don’t have a schedule this week.”

Marcus Maye replaced Poyer against the Patriots and led the team with nine tackles.

Jevon Holland is considered weekly, according to McDaniel. Holland left the game with a broken bone in his left hand that he suffered on Sunday The Miami Herald.

Holland was replaced in the game by Elijah Campbell, who played for Holland when he was sidelined with a knee injury last season. Holland appears more at risk of missing the Oct. 20 game against the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, but McDaniel said it’s too early to get a clear picture.

“We’ll see how it progresses, a little earlier than planned to kind of determine that,” McDaniel said. “But it feels like it’s a week-to-week thing. We’ll see what it looks like.”

McDaniel raised the possibility of Holland playing with a cast.

“Oh, I think it all depends on the player and his value…if it’s just a ball production player then I probably won’t play anyone,” McDaniel said. “If you offer much more than what Javon offers, it’s worth playing with a cast even if you’re just a PBU player at the time of the attack.”

“He plays such a big role in the different ways we use him that I think if it came to that, if he supported it, I would support it. Because it’s all about the boys feeling like they can do their job at a high level, and so every player is independent, but open to working with a player of his ability.”

Another factor for Holland that cannot be overlooked is the fact that he is in his contract year and doesn’t want to miss any more time than necessary in hopes of getting a big contract. whether a contract extension with the Dolphins or a free agent deal with another team next offseason.
