The Maui native and her husband are celebrating great success after their series “Shogun” won 18 Emmys

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A Maui native and her husband celebrated a huge night at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday as their series “Shogun” broke records with a total of 18 Emmys.

Rachel Kondo from Maui and her husband Justin Marks are the creators of the new US series “Shogun” from 2024.

In addition to the award for best drama series, “Shogun” star Hiroyuki Sanada also won best actor in a drama and his co-star Anna Sawai won best actress. They are the first Japanese actors to win these categories.

At the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which were presented last week, the series won a record 14 Emmys.

“Shogun” is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell. It was already made into a miniseries in 1980 with Richard Chamberlain in the leading role.

Kondo grew up in Pukalani and graduated from Maui High School. She and Marks were recently honored with this year’s Career Achievement Award at Hawaii International Film Festival 44.

With HIFF kicking off next month, Kondo and Marks will be at the Consolidated Kahala in Hawaii on October 11 to screen “Shogun: An Evening with Showrunners Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo.”

More Emmy highlights:
