The hot weather will continue for the time being

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana (KPLC) – Expect renewed heat on Sunday, so continue to exercise caution with any outdoor activities planned.

As we close out the weekend, chances of rain will be even lower and temperatures will likely be even higher. Many areas away from the coast are expected to see highs of over 35 degrees, and some inland locations could reach or even exceed 38 degrees! Humidity will be high enough for the heat index to reach 43 degrees or more, meaning it will be especially important to stay hydrated outdoors on Sunday and perhaps spend more time indoors during the day’s high.

The forecast for next week will not be much different, but there may be some changes.

The first change is on Monday as we continue to be on the edge of a high pressure system aloft. While it should be just as hot, we will be watching to see if disturbances along the edge of the high pressure system can move into our area as some models suggest. If so, we could see some thunderstorms, potentially strong. Overall, it still looks like little rain, but that is something we will be fine-tuning as Sunday progresses, especially as the models will not be able to properly process these configurations for a day.

We’ll also see a weak cold front approach SWLA around Tuesday. If it makes it that far, we probably won’t see a dramatic drop in temperatures anyway. However, we could see a drop in humidity and slightly cooler morning lows for at least a few days afterward.

The tropics remain very close to SWLA and there is no danger of anything developing in our area! We are monitoring Hurricane Ernesto near Puerto Rico. Ernesto is moving north across the western Atlantic and will remain well east of the United States, so it obviously poses NO threat to SWLA.
