The Hendersonville restaurant serves hot meals to victims of Hurricane Helene

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Indian Aroma Bistro on Main Street in Hendersonville is providing hot meals to support those in need in the community.

Vick Singh, co-owner of Indian Aroma Bistro, returned to the facility this week to assess the situation and see if there is power and a way to prepare meals for residents and visitors who are having difficulty finding food.

When he learned he had power, he said his co-workers were willing to help him.

“I called my staff and they got to work,” Singh said. “We just want to help people because there’s just no food.”

Indian Aroma Bistro has put together a buffet for $10 per person. However, to ensure no one goes hungry, Vick has made it clear that those who cannot afford the food are still welcome to come in and eat.

Singh emphasized his family’s commitment to supporting the community during their years in the restaurant industry and throughout his childhood.

“That’s how we grew up. That’s what we do,” Singh said.

Jeanie Baughman traveled from Knoxville, Tennessee to attend her high school alumni reunion, but her trip soon took a different turn after Helene.

“I live in a place without water or electricity. I’ve seen a lot of flooding through… Asheville. It took me four to five hours longer than it would normally take me coming from Tennessee,” she said.

Baughman says she is grateful to Indian Aroma Bistro and its help.

“I couldn’t get to that part of town where the hotel was,” she said. “I had to stay in my car last night. I had spent more than 30 hours without sleep or food. I was completely hungry; I was not myself. (I am) blessed and grateful.”
