The heat wave will continue on Thursday, although temperatures will drop slightly

The Bay Area’s week-long heat wave began to weaken by a few degrees Thursday but will still remain in the 90s in many places, according to a National Weather Service meteorologist.

The day will be an average of four to five degrees cooler than record-breaking Wednesday, but the difference could still be hard to feel because Thursday will still be very warm, NWS meteorologist Rachel Kennedy said.

Most of Santa Clara County will see temperatures in the high 90s, with San Jose eager to see if it will break its previous record for hottest temperatures that day. A temperature of 98 degrees was forecast for the “capital of Silicon Valley” today; The previous record was 97 in 1985. South County towns are expected to reach the lowest 100s, while Morgan Hill is expected to reach a high of 104.

In the East Bay, temperatures are expected to warm with elevation as the influence of cooler air diminishes near San Francisco Bay, Kennedy said. Areas along the coast are expected to reach the upper 80s and mid 90s. A high of 88 was forecast for Oakland, so Thursday would be slightly cooler than Wednesday due to the influence of the bay. A high of 86 was expected for Berkeley.
