The Giants' rookie star suffered a concussion late against the Cowboys

Malik Nabers enjoyed another great game for the New York Giants, but he suffered a concussion in the team’s 20-15 loss on “Thursday Night Football” against the Dallas Cowboys.

Nabers was hit late in the fourth quarter while trying to catch a fourth-down pass from Daniel Jones. He went down hard on the sideline and remained lying there after the game.

Update on Malik Nabers’ injury

Nabers suffered a concussion on the Giants’ second-to-last drive. He tried to catch a fourth-and-six pass from Jones but couldn’t quite secure the ball while trying to tap his toes into the ball.

Nabers went down and landed hard on his head and right shoulder, unable to break his fall. He remained briefly on the sideline before being moved to a sitting position without a helmet.

Finally, Nabers got up and went into the blue medical tent. He later went to the locker room, where he remained for the duration of the competition.

Shortly after Nabers entered the locker room, the Giants announced that he had suffered a concussion and would miss the remainder of the game.

Giants coach Brian Daboll did not provide an update on Nabers during his postgame press conference because he was unable to see his upper body before speaking to reporters.

“He was at the doctors right before I got here,” Daboll said. “I’ll see him right after.”

Who is Malik Nabers’ backup on the Giants depth chart?

Jalin Hyatt is the Giants’ No. 4 receiver and would likely be the Nabers’ top backup. Hyatt was a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Tennessee and made 23 catches for 373 yards as a rookie. He didn’t make a catch in his second season and started Week 4 with just 38 offensive snaps.

Hyatt may see more playing time if Nabers has to miss time, but Wan’Dale Robinson would likely become the Giants’ No. 1 receiver. Robinson was targeted 14 times against the Cowboys and caught 11 passes for 71 yards.

Veteran Darius Slayton would also see an increase in opportunities.

Nabers was the Giants’ offensive catalyst in the loss to the Cowboys. He was targeted a team-high 15 times and caught 12 passes for 115 yards; He also ran the ball once on a sweep, but lost four yards.

Nabers recorded 35 receptions, 388 yards and three touchdowns in his first four NFL games. He looked every bit the dynamic playmaker the Giants were hoping for when they selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
