The former Oregon State Beavers star says “now is the time” for the Dallas Cowboys to turn things around

Brandin Cooks is tired of the talk.

The Dallas Cowboys have been pushed and prodded like a junior varsity team during their last two losses to the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens. Players, coaches and management — especially owner Jerry Jones — have spoken about what’s wrong with the team, particularly on defense.

Cooks, the team’s wide receiver and former Oregon State Beavers star, said the time for talks is over.

“I think at the end of the day, after three games, we can’t keep coming back here like we need to fix it, now is absolutely the time,” Cooks told reporters on Wednesday. “With a short week ahead of us, there’s no better chance to go out there, play our football and sort out the things we’re talking about.”

The Cowboys (1-2) have an opportunity to “fix things” when they face the New York Giants (1-2) on Thursday night. The Cowboys have dominated the Giants in recent seasons. They have won the last six games and 13 of 14 overall. They defeated the Giants by a combined margin of 89-17 in their two games last season, including a 40-0 victory in the 2023 season opener.

Cooks and the Cowboys are not focused on the past, but rather on making sure everyone is paying attention to the details of the upcoming game.

“Do your job. Working on that and being able to play fast,” Cooks told reporters on Wednesday. “It’s everything – you can’t rely on what we do in the building. What you do in your free time and prepare outside the facility is very important in this game.”

The Cowboys are only playing their fourth game of the season, but for a team with Super Bowl aspirations, the pressure is increasing by the day. Losing to the Saints and Ravens was bad, but a loss to the Giants would likely set off alarm bells in the front office. They need a win to get back on track.

“We have a big task ahead of us,” Cooks told reporters. “I think we will get through this well. We have prepared well for it. We’ll see how things go on Thursday.”
