The first hotfix for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is live. It fixes some rare crashes and improves performance on some hardware. Developer Saber Interactive says a larger patch with major changes will be available soon.
Space Marine 2 is doing very well, peaking at more than 225,000 concurrent players on Steam on release day – a Monday. The game has since attracted more than two million players, and Saber Interactive’s chief creative officer Tim Willits said he believes it is the fastest-selling game he and former id colleague Todd Hollenshead have ever worked on, “including all the Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein and Rage games over the years.”

(For comparison, the 2016 Doom reboot, which came out when Willits was still studio head at id Software, peaked at just over 44,000 concurrent players on Steam. So yes, I can believe it.)
Of course, Space Marine 2 isn’t perfect (but what is?) and some players have been experiencing crashes and performance issues. Today’s quick fix should address at least some of these issues.
The menu includes:
Crashes and bug fixes
- Fixed some rare possible crashes when starting the game
- Fixed a rare potential crash that occurred during the first cutscene.
- Fixed several other rare crashes
- Fixed several rare bugs that caused softlocks in Story Mode
PC only
- Optimized CPU behavior on high-end CPUs
A larger patch is in the works and is expected to arrive in late September. It will add support for ultrawide displays and private PvE lobbies, add a new “sparring arena” in the battleship, and include the usual “and more!”, including another, presumably larger, round of bug fixes.
“Please believe us when we say that we read your feedback with great attention,” said the development team. “It takes time, of course, as we have a lot of messages to process. But we see and hear you.”
“We are also aware of the various bugs you have encountered. We are working hard to fix them.”
Space Marine 2 players who encounter bugs are asked to report them on Focus Home’s new community platform.
