The Dodgers have the best MLB record and home field advantage in the postseason

We don’t know how long the Dodgers will last in the postseason, but they will have home field advantage in every series they play in October. Los Angeles posted the best record in Major League Baseball heading into Saturday’s game against the Rockies at Coors Field.

The Dodgers (96-64) are No. 1 in the National League ahead of the Phillies (94-67) – who lost in Washington DC on Saturday – and will finish with a better record than the Yankees (93-68). With the victory in the NL West on Thursday evening, the Dodgers also secured a bye beyond the wild card round and went straight into the National League Division Series.

The first postseason game for the Dodgers is next Saturday, October 5th at Dodger Stadium with Game 1 of the NLDS. The Dodgers host the winner of the wild-card series between the No. 4 seed Padres and the team that finishes as No. 5.

The Braves (87-71), Mets (87-71) and Diamondbacks (88-72) are all fighting for the final two wild card spots in the NL, a battle that could even last until Monday. If necessary, the Braves and Mets will play a doubleheader in Atlanta on Monday, making up for two games that were postponed last Wednesday due to inclement weather.

The Dodgers posted a 52-28 (.650) record at Dodger Stadium this season, the second-best home record in MLB, trailing only Philadelphia (54-27 at Citizens Bank Park). After the All-Star break, Los Angeles was 24-10 at home. In the final five weeks of the season, the Dodgers won home series against three playoff teams – the Orioles, Guardians and Padres.

This marks the fourth time in the last eight seasons that the Dodgers have finished with the best record in MLB, joining 2017, 2020 and 2022. They also had the second-best record in 2019 and 2021. Since moving to Los Angeles, the Dodgers have had the best record in the MLB only one other time, in 1974.
