The Cowboys’ already weakened defense caused further injuries to their star rushers

The Dallas Cowboys earned their seventh straight win over the New York Giants on Thursday, but at a cost.

Dallas’ defense has already been hurting, with record-setting defenseman DaRon Bland out with a stress fracture in his foot.

Despite entering Week 4 with the league’s worst run defense, Dallas somehow managed to hold running back Devin Singletary to just 24 rushing yards. (The Cowboys had allowed 467 combined in their last two games.)

However, the run defense may need a lot of help to repeat such an attempt after two star defenders were injured.

All-Pro rusher Micah Parsons reportedly suffered a sprained ankle, while four-time Pro Bowl lineman DeMarcus Lawrence has a sprained right foot.

Lawrence appears to be back in Pro Bowl form, leading Dallas with three sacks. Parsons, on the other hand, has been a Defensive Player of the Year candidate since entering the league in 2021 and has totaled 41.5 sacks in his young career.

According to ESPN, Lawrence is expected to be out for a few weeks. Parsons’ timetable is unknown, but history shows that a high ankle sprain typically results in an absence of at least two weeks.

Dallas earned a 20-15 victory at MetLife Stadium on Thursday as the G-Men failed to find the end zone. Greg Joseph kicked five field goals, but Rico Dowdle and CeeDee Lamb scored touchdowns while Brandon Aubrey fielded two kicks.

The good news about these injuries is that Dallas’ release week comes after the next two games. So if both injuries take two to three weeks to heal, both should be fully healthy when the team returns.

Dallas improved to 2-2 this season and hopes to become the first team in two decades to defend the NFC East crown.
