The Brewers star went to the parking lot after the playoff fireworks to meet the Mets’ Jesse Winker

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames clearly took his trash talk with New York Mets designated hitter Jesse Winker seriously — so seriously that he fulfilled his role in his challenge.

During the incident in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series in which Winker was seen mouthing off Adames, the shortstop clapped back, “I’ll let you know in the parking lot after the game.” Apparently Adames has just that done, but Winker didn’t show up, he told the New York Post.

“I told him that when we were tweeting at each other,” Adames said Thursday. … “I was there (in the parking lot).”

The players gave few details about their trash-talking “conversation,” but luckily Jomboy, the sports world’s best lip reader, was on the case and broke down the incident to provide some clarity on Tuesday — a back-and-forth that Adames largely confirmed to the Post.

It started when Winker fired a pitch down the right field line for a two-run triple that tied the game at 2 in the second inning. As Winker rounded second base, he was shown yelling “(expletive) you” to someone unknown. It could have been Adames or catcher Wilson Contreras smearing dirt on Winker’s feet before the field, or someone else entirely.

Adames clearly heard Winker and turned to look at him, but nothing else happened immediately afterward. Winker cheered toward the Mets dugout with a few profanities and it went quiet for a moment — until Winker started talking to Adames at third base again during a pitching coach visit.

“What?” Winker said to Adames before throwing more profanities at Adames.

“Do you want to do something about it?” asked Winker. “Do you want to do something?” repeat the question several times.

Adames responded: “I’ll let you know in the parking lot after the game,” Adames said, silencing the finger.

After the Mets’ 8-4 win over the Brewers, Winker was the first to speak to reporters. He recapitulated the incident but didn’t reveal what was said, preferring to focus on the rest of the series.

“When I took the first round, I was watching Pete (Alonso) and (Mets third base coach Mike Sarbaugh) the whole time,” a visibly upset Winker said. “As soon as I saw the Sarby windmill, I turned my attention to the second one and thought, ‘I’m going to the third one.’ That’s all that happened.

“If you all think I can walk and talk, you don’t know my athletic abilities. That doesn’t work.”

However, Adames didn’t buy it. He insisted that Winker start a verbal argument.

“I don’t know what was going through his mind, but he just started saying some things,” Adames said, via Bally Sports Wisconsin. “And I just say something back, you know, I don’t know. I think that’s the type of player he is. It is what it is.”

When asked if he was disappointed by the exchange, Adames called the incident with his former Brewers teammate “surprising.”
