BMW has finally unveiled the 2025 M5 Touring, which will debut on the American market. The super-powerful station wagon looks sleek in its press photos, but when you look at the numbers, you realize it’s actually a big boy in terms of both weight and power.

As BMW has already hinted, the 2025 M5 Touring features a hybrid powertrain. Its 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 and electric motor combine to produce up to 717bhp and 850Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds. With the M tuning magic, you’ll be comfortable and safe, and you might forget for a moment that you’re in a family car that weighs 2,500kg. Top speed is 250km/h, but the M Driver’s Package boosts it to a whopping 305km/h. The M5 Touring can technically get by on its electric motor alone, but it has a measly maximum range of 40km and a top speed of just 140km/h in this mode.

The 8-speed M Steptronic transmission lets you control the car’s performance, with three shift settings available in automatic and manual modes. There’s also a new Boost Control that acts like video game nitro when you’re driving between 20 and 90 mph. Pull and hold the left paddle shifter for a second, and you get instant acceleration. As for the wagon, the M5 Touring has plenty of room for cargo, with a maximum capacity of 57.6 cubic feet. It also has a split rear diffuser in case you want to tow something with it.

BMW has thankfully refrained from giving the M5 Touring a huge kidney grille. With flared wheel arches, side skirts and a roof spoiler, it looks as sporty as a thick and round station wagon can look. Underneath this wide and low body is a network of support elements such as thrust plates and a cross brace.

The entire interior is branded with M features, including a racing-style steering wheel, LED lighting that extends from the instrument panel to the two front doors, and of course the M-specific control panel on the center console.

The 2025 BMW M5 Touring will be available starting in the fourth quarter of this year with a base price of $121,500.
