The 20th annual Giant Yard Sale begins Friday | News, Sports, Jobs

OBSERVER Photo by Braden Carmen Shoppers flocked to the aisles of Floral Hall at the annual Lakeshore Humane Society Giant Yard Sale in the first year of early bird sales in 2022. Early bird sales for this year’s event begin Friday at 9 a.m.

An annual event that has been held for two decades returns Friday morning at Floral Hall at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds. The 20th annual Giant Yard Sale begins at 9 a.m. and is set to benefit the Lakeshore Humane Society.

Early bird shopping for the event begins Friday with admission priced at $3. The event runs the entire weekend, with regular admission free on Saturday and Sunday. Doors open at 9 a.m. each morning and close at 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. The annual event also includes a bake sale, basket raffles, hot dog sales and a “Make a bargain” Drawing with a rake full of scratch cards.

Early bird shopping was a change introduced in 2022 to attract a post-pandemic crowd, and this change resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of shoppers at the opening of the event.

“We have made many changes to improve our work and become more efficient,” said Janet Szymanski, a 2022 Lakeshore Humane Society volunteer. “…We will try to improve our activities every year to offer the community an even better shopping experience.”

The Giant Yard Sale is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Lakeshore Humane Society as the organization works to keep animals safe and healthy as they search for permanent homes. Volunteers are welcome.
