Not all work backpacks are the same and with so many brands on the market, you want to make sure you’re getting the best for your money. Here are a few things to consider when choosing your new laptop bag:
Consider the materials
While leather backpacks look stylish, they may not be the best choice for everyday use or travel, as full-grain leather is porous and can be ruined by an unexpected rain shower. Synthetic leather, on the other hand, is usually made from synthetic materials like polyurethane (PU) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which means it can withstand the elements better. Other good fabric options include polyester, nylon, and neoprene, all of which are typically water-resistant (if not water-repellent).
Prioritize functionality
Of course, you want a bag that looks nice—but looks won’t matter if your bag isn’t optimized for your commute. Look for a backpack with useful travel features, like interior pockets for organization, side pockets for water bottles and umbrellas, and a trolley strap to slip over a luggage handle. And, of course, a separate laptop compartment with plenty of padding and good drop protection is a must.
Check laptop capacity
While it’s not a given, you should make sure that the laptop backpack you buy actually fits your laptop. To determine your laptop size, you can measure your laptop screen diagonally from corner to corner, edge to edge. Then, check the dimensions of each bag’s laptop compartment to make sure it fits properly.
