Teacher Douglas Anderson reported that he had temporarily removed the pages of 19 DCPS employees since August

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Duval County Public School’s “Know the Line” campaign helps keep students safe.

Since the campaign began in late August, 19 teachers and staff have been temporarily removed from their positions as a result of the reporting.

Of these 19, nine were teachers, two were physical education teachers and one was a health teacher. Four were auxiliary workers and three were security guards.

News4JAX learned through a records request that more than 100 reports were produced as part of the campaign, including:

  • 141 through the Misconduct Reporting Forms submitted by supervisors regarding conduct that would involve an allegation of a “Know the Line” conduct violation

  • 30 were from “Employee Complaints and Misconduct Reporting Forms” or the “General Form.”

  • Seventeen were complaints from the community, students or staff

  • 13 were from principals or deputy principals and should have been entered as a “misconduct report form.”

During the October 1st school board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Christopher Bernier discusses the “Know the Line” campaign in his report.

“We continue to work on the ‘Know the Line’ process.” While I believe we have selected and temporarily placed more teachers this year, that is exactly what should be happening in an organization that is now paying more careful attention to ensure that both our students As well as adults and other people who attend our school, this is the safest position possible,” said Dr. Bernier.

Here is the report we received from Duval County Schools on Friday:

  • Fourteen of the reports reported between August and September were labeled “inappropriate physical contact with a student” and involved teachers, support staff and a security guard

  • A Lavilla health teacher was cited Sept. 25 for “inappropriate communication with a student – ​​sexual.”

  • 1 security guard was cited for “inappropriate communication with a student” on September 5th

  • A Jean Ribault High School teacher was cited Sept. 4 for “inappropriate physical contact with a colleague.”

  • 1 Douglas Anderson teacher was reported on August 28 for “inappropriate communication with a student of a sexual nature.”

The Duval County School Board unanimously adopted an updated ethics policy in September after combating several employee misconduct issues. That includes six teachers who were removed from teaching at Douglas Anderson.

There was a criminal prosecution related to the actions of a teacher. Jeffrey Clayton admitted to physical contact with students and other allegations.

Three Douglas Anderson students also agreed to a $1.45 million settlement with the district over teacher misconduct complaints.

During Tuesday’s school board meeting, Dr. Bernier to the community for her “Knowing the Line.”

“It is a difficult situation when you have to report a colleague based on what you have seen or heard, but our staff are listening to the message from this body that was delivered over the summer,” said Dr. Bernier.
