UNIVERSITY PARK – As if the 20-point lead over rival TCU at halftime wasn’t entertaining enough for SMU fans, the crowd at Ford Stadium went wild when they saw TCU head coach Sonny Dykes being escorted to the locker room just 24 seconds into the second half.
TCU wide receiver Jordyn Bailey took the opening kickoff down the stretch and scored a touchdown, but the play was ultimately called back for holding. That play sparked a response from Dykes, who received two consecutive unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and was ejected from the game at 14:36 of the third quarter.
The SMU crowd responded by cheering and chanting “SMU.”
Sonny Dykes with an unprecedented heel turn!
Commits two unsportsmanlike offenses in a row, chirps at the referees, gets sent off the field and then clenches his fist in front of the crowd at his former school.

Dykes walked into the locker room as the SMU home crowd at Ford Stadium stood, waved and booed their former head coach.
Dykes served as SMU’s head coach for four seasons from 2018 to 2021 before moving to rival TCU, a move many viewed as a betrayal.
An already bitter rivalry intensified even more when TCU decided to put the game on hold after the 2025 season.
At the last meeting at Ford Stadium, the Mustangs made a statement and TCU had to play almost half the game without its head coach.
