Tampa International Airport reopens after Hurricane Helene

Tampa International Airport is now fully open and operational after commercial and cargo flight operations were suspended on Thursday due to Hurricane Helene.

Airport operations staff conducted a damage assessment early Friday morning and determined that TPA did not suffer significant damage from the storm.

“After working diligently to protect the safety of our travelers, employees and facilities, TPA has weathered this large and dangerous storm,” said Joe Lopano, CEO of Tampa International Airport. “Now we can focus our attention on serving our community and travelers and assisting in the effort to help our fellow Floridians recover from Helene.”

Information for travelers:

  • TSA security checkpoints, parking, the SkyConnect train, the rental car center and other services are all open and operational. Some shops and restaurants at the airport will gradually reopen throughout the day.
  • As a high volume of passengers is expected, passengers are urged to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure. Delays and cancellations are expected Friday as airlines update their schedules in response to the impacts of Hurricane Helene.   • General Aviation Airports: Access to Peter O. Knight Airport in Tampa’s Davis Islands remains limited due to flooding and a reopening date has not yet been set. Tampa Executive and Plant City airports are resuming operations today. These three facilities are operated by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority, which also operates TPA.
