Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried star in the film adaptation of The Housemaid.

Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney are teaming up for the film adaptation of The Housemaid.

On Tuesday, Lionsgate announced the news of the film adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel of the same name.

Seyfried and Sweeney also took to Instagram to preview the film, which will be directed by Paul Feig.

“Freida McFadden’s ‘The Housemaid’ is coming to the big screen,” Seyfried said in a video also shared by the film. “Hold on.”

Sweeney shared a video of herself with the book with the caption, “Tell me about yourself, Millie” – a reference to her character in the film.

A logline for the film states: “Sweeney will play Millie, a troubled young woman who is relieved to start over as a housemaid for Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew, an upscale, wealthy couple…but soon.” learns that the family secrets are far more dangerous than her own.

Feig, known for directing films like “A Simple Favor” and “Spy,” shared a video on Instagram showing off the book cover and holding a martini.

“It’s happening,” he captioned the video. “So excited to bring this amazing book by @fmcfaddenauthor to life on the big screen with @sydney_sweeney and @mingey and my friends at @lionsgate and @hiddenpicturesmedia. Millie is on her way.”

McFadden’s novel, published in 2022, has been on the New York Times bestseller list for over a year and has sold over 1 million copies.

In 2023, McFadden released the second book in the series, “The Housemaid’s Secret,” and in June she released the third book in the series, “The Housemaid is Watching.”

“I can’t express how excited I am to announce that #TheHousemaidMovie is coming soon!!!” McFadden wrote on Instagram. “@Lionsgate came up with the absolute perfect cast and director and I am just so grateful! I mean, Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried and Paul Feig…amazing!!!! 🤯.”

“I am so honored and grateful to all my readers who helped make this dream come true!!!!” she added.
