Stefon Diggs: It’s gratifying when they trust you in important moments

There was a lot of hype surrounding the Texans offense during the offseason, and the unit lived up to that hype on Opening Day.

Joe Mixon ran for 159 yards and a touchdown, while CJ Stroud rushed for 234 yards and two scores in a 29-27 win over the Colts. Both of Stroud’s touchdowns went to Stefon Diggs, who made his Texans debut after joining Mixon in the offseason as a spectacular transfer.

Diggs came to Houston after a frustrating 2023 season As a result, his role in the Bills’ offense became smaller in the second half of the year, and Diggs said it felt good to have Stroud paying attention to him in key moments on Sunday.

“It is gratifying the recipient position“, Diggs said, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC. “Since training camp, I’ve been working my ass off to be a captain and lead the team. I’m alongside guys that do that too, like Joe and CJ. In the moments when they rely on you, it’s because they trust you in those big moments. Fourth down, money on the floor, trust No. 1.”

The Texans didn’t have to pay attention to Diggs the entire time. Mixon’s contribution was obvious and Nico Collins was the offensive player with six catches for 117 yards, but Diggs caught all six passes thrown to him and it paid off for a team that’s looking to go deep into the playoffs this season.
