Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson has been declared inactive for the second week in a row and will serve as an emergency quarterback, third behind Kyle Allen.

Wilson is still recovering from a calf injury he sustained during conditioning exercises on the first day of training camp.

If Justin Fields can keep the ball under control today against the Denver Broncos, he could be locked into the starting spot forever. According to sources told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Steelers could continue their winning streak and bench Wilson.

If that were to happen, Wilson wouldn’t be happy, but if he wants to keep playing beyond 2024, risking further damage to his body probably isn’t the best idea.

Wilson signed a one-year deal with the Steelers in March at the vet minimum, as he will receive $39 million from the Broncos this season.
