Solid defensive performances are not enough against the Chargers

The bright spot for the Raiders offense was their 2024 first-round pick, Brock Bowers. The former John Mackey Award winner finished the day with six receptions, the most on his team, and also became the second-best tight end in his NFL debut in history.

The rookie was a little nervous before his first NFL game, but after a few catches, the nerves quickly subsided.

“I did some good things and some bad things,” Bowers said. “We’ll just watch the film and get better, we’ll see what it looked like. I’m pretty good at staying balanced. I felt like I was in a good mood the whole game and it was a good feeling to be out there.”

Things aren’t getting any easier for the Raiders heading into their Week 2 road game against the reigning AFC North Champion Baltimore Ravens. With an explosive quarterback like Lamar Jackson on the other side, the offense will have to try to put more points on the scoreboard to help the defense.

“We’ve got to keep going. Next game mentality, next game mentality,” said Davante Adams, who finished the day with five catches for 59 yards. “There’s really nothing we can do (now). I think if we go out and do a few things a little better, we’ll definitely win the game.”

“But we don’t have that. So now it’s time to move on to Baltimore.”
