Smokehouse in Harris County closes – Fogo de Chão comes to Katy and Cypress

KATY, TX (Katy News coverage) – The Harris County Smokehouse on the corner of I-10 is closed and surrounded by a construction fence. Next year, popular Brazilian restaurant Fogo de Chão will move into its location near the Costco corner where the Katy Freeway meets Highway 99.

Fogo will expand its presence in the greater Houston area with the opening of a new location in Katy in 2025. The Katy restaurant will span 80,000 square feet at the 222 West Grand Parkway South location.

The new location of Fogo’s invites a duel between Brazilian steakhouses and Gauchos Do Sul, which is located not far away on Highway 99 south of the Katy Freeway.

Fogo will also open a new 80,000-square-foot Cypress restaurant, scheduled to open in 2024. 19820 Northwest Motorwaylocated in the Crossroads neighborhood, where first-class homes, shops, offices and restaurants are located.

“Our growth in Houston is a strategic move to bring our accessible and authentic Brazilian culinary experience to new and existing markets,” said Barry McGowan, CEO of Fogo de Chão. “After being part of the local community for nearly 25 years, we are excited to open our fourth and fifth Houston-area locations and look forward to introducing our guests to the culinary art of churrasco in Katy and Cypress.”

Both locations feature a spacious dining room arranged around an open churrasco grill. This design gives guests a 360-degree view of gaucho chefs breaking down premium cuts of meat, carving by hand and grilling over an open flame, creating a delicious salty crust. The restaurant also features a market table with seasonal salads, fresh superfoods, charcuterie, antipasti and more.

In keeping with Fogo’s commitment to creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the Katy location will feature inviting social gathering areas throughout Bar Fogo where guests can enjoy all-day happy hour for any occasion. The restaurant will also offer dry-aged meat coolers showcasing delicious cuts like the 32 oz. Long-Bone Tomahawk Ribeye, aged for a minimum of 42 days for rich flavor.

The Katy and Cypress locations bring the total number of Fogo de Chão restaurants in the greater Houston area to five, in addition to existing locations in Friendswood, The Woodlands and Houston on Westheimer.
