Skimmer found at Git N Go gas pumps in Newton – Newton Daily News

Skimming devices designed to steal credit card information were found at the Git N Go on First Avenue in Newton. Police are urging anyone who has purchased fuel at the gas station to monitor their financial transactions and contact their bank if they notice any suspicious activity.

According to an Aug. 27 news release from the Newton Police Department, authorities are investigating after five people reported their credit card information was stolen. All five people had purchased gas at the Git N Go pumps in the 800 block of First Avenue West.

Newton Police, with assistance from the Iowa Department of Agriculture, found suspected Bluetooth skimming devices on two of the pumps used by the victims. Police believe the skimmers may have been installed since late July 2024.

The affected gas pumps have been taken out of service. Captain Chris Wing of the Newton Police Department urged people not to swipe their credit or debit card when paying, but instead use either the Tap or a mobile wallet, as these “do not transmit card information, they just send a token to the bank.”

To contact Newton Police, call 641-791-0850.
