Single mother of a family living in a car is looking for a new home after car theft

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – The Kia/Hyundai competition has been nothing new to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in recent years.

Despite all efforts to put a stop to this hostility, such incidents continue to occur locally.

Angelika Edwards William told WBTV that her Kia Optima was more than just a car, it was a home for her and her twin daughters.

“Where did my car go?” is how Angelika Edwards William described her reaction when she discovered that her Kia Optima was no longer where she had parked it.

William said the car was stolen while it was parked in front of a friend’s house. She also said that police found her car but it was a total loss.

“This is my home. This is my girls’ home. We spent two and a half years here, they literally aged in this car, just like I did,” William said.

William said her car not only served as transportation for her and her twin girls, but also provided them with a place to stay since their divorce.

William shared a cellphone video of her Kia Optima after she said it was found by police. In the video, it can be seen to be trashed and with belongings lying everywhere.

“If someone just takes it away from me, it’s like they’re taking away everything that’s mine in that moment,” William explained.

The single mother also said that she had important documents in the car

“Shoes, school clothes, clothes we had accumulated from our time of homelessness. All of that was in the car. Along with birth certificates and bank details,” said William.

While working to start over, William set up a GoFundMe page to help himself and his girls find a more permanent home.

“This will allow us to find some kind of housing, put a down payment on something that is income restricted and that I can afford. This will allow us to get my girls out of the heat and off the streets. A blessing to me is a blessing to my children,” William said.
