Shohei & Teoscar get the big hits, the penalty creates 6 shutouts – Dodgers Digest

Hello and welcome back to the playoff dream/nightmare, and things were certainly looking more like a nightmare for the Dodgers as the ghosts of 2023 seemed to be haunting them early on. While it was hoped that Yamamoto would recover after a 1-2-3 in the 2nd frame, he started the 3rd with a double to Fernando Tatis Jr. After a few outs he then walked Jackson Merrill and frustratingly gave up a two-out, two-run double Xander Bogaerts to make it 5-3 Padres.

Another Lux single followed, putting runners in, and Smith eventually scored on an Edman GIDP to at least extend the lead to 7-5, although he robbed them of a big inning.

By now it was the Dodgers’ job to cover six innings, and they started in the fourth Ryan Brasierwho got a one-out double, but nothing else. Brasier also got the first two outs of the 5th before taking over the game Alex Vesiawho got a strikeout.

Vesia then repeated the same formula as Brasier, striking out the next two batters in the 6th before giving it up Evan Phillipswho got the final out of the inning. He then got the 7th, surviving the brutal lefty duels and Tatis and giving the Dodgers scoreless four outs.

Got Phillips through the nightmare duel with the two lefties in a row and got Tatis without an extra pin arm. Come on, just a little more.

The 8th was one of them Michael Kopechwho struggled, issuing a leadoff walk on four pitches, recovering with a strikeout on an eight-pitch at-bat and then issuing another walk in a 10-pitch battle. Insurance for the Dodgers was suppressed in the 6th and 7th Jason Adam retired four batters in a row and Bryan Hoeing walked a batter but got two outs. Hoeing also started in the 8th and gave up a single to Edman Tanner Scott entered. He got Rojas to bunt, hit Ohtani even though Edman stole second, intentionally walked Mookie and Freddie Freeman struck out, leaving the Dodgers 4-16 at RISP tonight.

Still holding a two-run lead, Treinen trotted back for the 9th run, starting with a strikeout and then a lineout after a diving play by Lux.

However, a Tatis single with two strikeouts brought the game-winning run to the plate and a walk from Jurickson Profar gave them the winning run to the plate in the form of Machado. Luckily, Manny swung three balls after taking one and that was game.
