SF International Airport has changed its logo and abandoned the one it had used for 24 years

After Oakland Airport changed its name to San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport, SFO is responding with a fresh, new version of the airport logo it has used for the past 24 years.

It’s only been about three months since Oakland changed the name of Oakland International Airport to San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport, a move apparently designed to confuse the public. And San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu has sued the City of Oakland, so the new name may not last. But SF International Airport (SFO) is still one step ahead of that example, or at least trying to, as KRON4 reports that SFO just unveiled its new logo on Wednesday.

And above we see the new logo, which replaces the old logo that has been in use since 2000. The shade of blue used is a color they call “SFO Golden Hour Blue.”

“We are excited to unveil our new brand and logo, which reflect the exciting changes at SFO,” airport director Ivar Satero said in a press release. “Just as our old logo marked a time in the early 21st century, the new logo demonstrates our commitment to delivering an airport experience that puts people and our planet first.”

The video in the tweet above is particularly notable because it shows some of the airport’s old logos, as well as many of the alternate versions of the new logo that may be used depending on the season. One of these alternate logos is the “cable car” version shown below, and there are other alternates for Pride, Chinese New Year, and pandas. (Though they may be a little too optimistic about the panda thing.)

The new logo is already visible on the FlySFO website, but only in a small version in the top right corner. It will take a few years before the new logo is introduced on buses and vehicles, marketing materials and staff uniforms.

However, when looking at the full list of previous SFO logos, we believe the 1946 logo pictured below cannot be topped.
