If there is a severe weather warning for your area, you should do the following:
–If you are outdoors, get into your home, a sturdy building, or your car. If there is no building nearby, a cave or ditch is your best shelter. Boaters should get to shore immediately.
–If you are in a building, go to an indoor room on the lowest floor. Stay away from windows and doors. Do not use electrical devices. Do not use the telephone except in an emergency.
–If you are driving, pull over to the side of the road until the storm passes. Heavy rain and thunderstorms can quickly flood roads. Never attempt to drive through an area where the road is under water, even if you think it is not deep. This water could sweep away your vehicle.
— Make sure you have fresh batteries and several spare batteries on hand so you can use the flashlights frequently.
— Make sure your cell phone stays charged throughout the day in case you are unable to charge it later.
– Have a new and charged cell phone battery ready in case you need to charge your phone.
