Several rain waves ahead

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – Showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening, some of the storms could be severe and bring strong wind gusts and large hail. Heavy rain is a concern, especially tomorrow and throughout the rest of the week.

Headlines:

• A wet week is ahead

• Seasonal temperatures in the store

• Drier weekend

DISCUSSION:

Although it was unusually hot this weekend with highs in the 30s, it will cool off as the week progresses. It’s been dry lately, with just 0.32 inches on Sunday, putting us at the driest September on record. That’s about to change significantly this week, with a lot more rain on the way.

Weekday broadcast of WYMT Mountain News This Morning, 6 a.m.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected for the later afternoon and evening, some of which could be heavy. We have a level 2, low risk of severe weather, until tonight. Strong gusts of wind and large hail are the biggest concerns. Heavy rainfall is also a concern, which could lead to isolated flooding.

Later this week, all eyes will be on the Caribbean as a tropical depression will push more moisture into our area during the second half of the workweek.
