Serena Williams produces biopic about Ann Lowe

Ann Lowe – the groundbreaking fashion designer and American couturier – is presented as a biopic at the TriStar thanks to Serena Williams and Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth Carter.

Sony’s TriStar Pictures won the project titled The dressabout Lowe, one of the country’s most prolific but least known fashion designers. Lowe, who died in 1981, designed wardrobes for the biggest names in American society and industry in the mid-century, including members of the Rockefeller, Roosevelt, Du Pont and Whitney families.

The story revolves around how Lowe, the first black woman to own a store on Madison Avenue, was commissioned to design the wedding dress that Jackie Bouvier wore at her wedding to John F. Kennedy in 1953.

Williams and Caroline Currier are producing through Nine Two Six Productions. Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster are also producing through their company Blue Harp. Carter, who won two Oscars for costume design for Black Panther and tracking Wakanda foreverwill be executive producer and also costume designer of the film.

Shary Shirazi, who brought the offer, will take over the leadership of TriStar together with studio president Nicole Brown.

Williams, who is represented by WME and Foster Garvey PC, launched Nine Two Six Productions in 2023. Nine Two Six produced the women’s soccer documentary Cup 71and ESPN+ In the arena: Serena Williams.

Fitzerman-Blue and Harpster, whose other credits Transparent and Netflix series Painkillersare represented by UTA and Kaplan/Perrone. Their other studio films include the Disney title Maleficent and the upcoming live-action remake of the studio’s Bambi.
