SEC power ranking after Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss were stunned and the tide rolled

This weekend was by far the best we’ve had to start this college football season. Almost every team in the SEC participated and we had the big top matchup between Alabama and Georgia. This week had it all, including a stunning upset, some exciting games and arguably the craziest game of the season between Alabama and Georgia. After week five, here are our SEC power rankings:

1-4 (0-2). . HIalstate. . . . Last week: 16. . 16. 530

The Bulldogs didn’t lose as badly as many would have expected against Texas on Saturday, but they still took a loss. It’s hard to be harsh against Mississippi State when Jeff Lebby took over in a disaster, but still wait for an impressive performance from the offensive guru.

Hugh. . Last week: 15. . . 2-3 (0-2). . 15. . 525

Hugh Freeze came under attack from former players and Auburn alumni this week, but also said his team would have beaten Arkansas nine out of 10 times. The Tigers were in control Saturday, but Hugh Freeze didn’t believe his quarterback would give him the chance to put the ball away on third down before missing a field goal that led to an Oklahoma touchdown. Then, when he had a lead, he trusted his quarterback, but Payton Thorne threw a pick-six. This team is not good and might not even qualify for a bowl game at this point. Georgia, Missouri, Kentucky, Texas A&M and Alabama are still on the program.

Florida. Last week: 14. . . 2-2 (1-1). . 14. 526. .

The best thing for Billy Napier is that he didn’t play this weekend, which gives him at least one more week as Florida’s head coach. Now Florida faces UCF, which is coming off a terrible loss to Colorado, and that could give Napier a chance to get over .500. If you want to look on the bright side, Graham Mertz was impressive last weekend, and if he manages to surpass Florida, he could upset some teams down the stretch.

. ArkyPitt. . . 524. 3-2 (1-2). . 13. . Last week: 11

It appears that Sam Pittman is trying to oust Billy Napier as the first SEC head coach to be fired this season. After a big win over Auburn last weekend, Arkansas then lost to Texas A&M, scoring just three points in the second half. The defense held Texas A&M under 300 yards, but they still lost that game. The schedule doesn’t get much easier as the Razorbacks have Tennessee and LSU next on the schedule.
