Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford of the Rams talk about the Week 2 loss in Arizona

“It was one of those days that was really humbling and, you know, fortunately we didn’t feel a lot of those things, but tough times pass, tough people stay. A lot of things didn’t necessarily go according to plan the first couple of weeks, but today wasn’t what I expected.” – McVay

McVay said Arizona lost momentum on the game’s first drive and never regained it. After Blake Corum had his first NFL touchdown on the opening kickoff to the Cardinals’ 49-yard line, the Rams failed to score on a 4th-and-2 attempt on first down, giving the Cardinals excellent field position.

McVay said “there’s nothing positive about (the game),” other than the fact that it’s over now and the team can work to improve. Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray received high praise from McVay for his ability to make plays outside the game plan, escape the pocket and take advantage of missed opportunities by the Rams.

The loss was “not something we’re comfortable with,” McVay said, adding that the running game wasn’t what it should be and the five sacks were tough to take. It’s the first time McVay has started a season 0-2 as a head coach, and he said he’ll have to look at the whole thing in its entirety to figure out how to best address the mistakes on both sides of the ball.
