Seahawks’ DK Metcalf scores 56-yard touchdown against Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – DK Metcalf’s outstanding speed has made him one of the NFL’s greatest defensive players during the first five years of his career, and it helps him when the defense doesn’t cover him.

That was the case on the Seattle Seahawks’ second possession on Sunday, when Metcalf ran a go route from the slot and burst right through the New England Patriots’ secondary on a clear coverage bust. The result was a 56-yard touchdown pass from Geno Smith that tied the game at 7-7 late in the first quarter.

It was the sixth touchdown catch of over 50 yards in Metcalf’s career, which began in 2019. According to the Seahawks, this puts him tied with Steve Largent and Darrell Jackson for second place in franchise history.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, it was the third-longest touchdown of Metcalf’s career and the longest TD the Patriots have allowed since Jonathan Taylor’s 67-yard rushing score in 2021.
