Sea-Tac flight delays increase due to equipment and weather problems

Due to equipment problems and poor visibility in Western Washington, hundreds of flights to and from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport were delayed and numerous flights were canceled on Saturday.

FlightAware’s map shows that Seattle-Tacoma International Airport experienced exceptional conditions on Saturday as fog and smoke reduced visibility.

As of 3:30 p.m., FlightAware reported that there were 506 delays and four cancellations at the airport today.

On Saturday afternoon, arrivals at the airport were delayed by an average of one hour and four minutes. Departures were delayed by an average of about half an hour.

Airport officials announced they would use a different runway to get around the problems that caused delays for passengers.
