SAUK RAPIDS (WJON News) – Sauk Rapids is considering suspending the issuing of new rental licenses.
During its meeting on Monday, the City Council will consider an interim ordinance that would impose a moratorium on the issuing of new residential rental licenses.
The city says it has received an increase in inquiries from people applying for licenses. There is concern that the increased inquiries could cause residential properties to become concentrated in a certain area in the city, potentially leading to inconsistent property maintenance.
Staff are asking the council to adopt the temporary moratorium to allow time to review the current ordinance and determine if changes are needed to ensure there is not an oversaturation of rental housing in parts of the city.
The moratorium would not affect rental apartments that are already licensed. Existing licenses can still apply for license renewal during the moratorium.
