Sauk Rapids City Park is one of my kids’ favorite parks!

There are plenty of great parks and playgrounds in Central Minnesota, but some are more well-known than others. One park that I think deserves more recognition is Municipal Park in Sauk Rapids.

This park has it all: the Mississippi River and a boat access point, a huge playground, a massive fire pit, a beautiful basketball court, a sand volleyball court, a pavilion for picnics and dozens of outdoor tables scattered around, walking trails, and even a Gaga Ball court (which I’ll get to later).

For my toddler, the playground is the main attraction. With two giant slides and three connected smaller slides, the park offers something for kids of all ages to slide down. One of the giant slides has a steep drop like a water slide, while the other has plenty of twists and turns on the way down.

There are also many unique play equipment, such as a carousel, a train/tunnel system for the very little ones, a rideable dinosaur that jumps up and down, and many different things to climb on.

And the best thing is that there are always lots of children in the park, so mom and dad can relax a bit on a bench while they play around.

Near the park there is a cycling/hiking path along the river and numerous swings on the river bank invite you to take a breather.

For those who enjoy being active, Municipal Park offers a paved basketball court with glass back walls, a sand volleyball court, a softball field and even a gaga ball court.

Played on a sort of mini hockey field surrounded by boards, Gagaball is similar to dodgeball. Players hit a ball with their hands and try to hit their opponent below the knee to knock them out.

The park also has two huge log cabins that can be rented.
