Elder David P. Homer – Trusting Our Father

Elder David P. Homer of the Seventy said he was inspired by the story of Louisa Pratt, a woman whose husband served a mission while she traveled from Nauvoo to the Salt Lake Valley.

Pratt was initially hesitant to travel, but decided to do so after being encouraged by Brigham Young. She later wrote in her diary that there was “no happier woman in the whole company.”

Elder Homer said God trusts Church members to make their own decisions and asks them to trust Him. He said that the scriptures and prophets can guide us.

“God gives his word according to the attention and effort we give him. If we heed God’s Word, we will receive more; If we ignore his advice, we will receive less and less until we have nothing left,” he said.

Elder Homer encouraged members to look to the Savior and shared the story of his disciples who chose to leave and others who chose to stay.

“When we focus on the Savior, our faith can begin to overcome our worries,” he said.

He said that the Savior was a perfect example for everyone.

“When we find it difficult to understand or accept God’s will, it is comforting to remember that He loves us just as we are, wherever we are. And he has something better for us. If we turn to him, he will help us,” said Elder Homer.

He said submitting to God’s will is an act of faith and members are rewarded with the Holy Spirit, who brings joy and hope.

“They know our injuries and challenges. They will never let us down and know exactly how to support us. We can be of good cheer because we trust them more than anyone or anything else,” he concluded.
