Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet Tour Lace Jumpsuit is the pinnacle of lingerie dressing

As a fan of both the shimmering, glittery gel pen pop music and the sequined costumes in which stars perform their greatest hits, I have a hard time picking a favorite Sabrina Carpenter moment Short and sweet Tour. But if I had to choose one from the sold-out show I attended at New York’s Madison Square Garden on September 29, it would be the grand entrance that Carpenter made in her second appearance in a custom lace jumpsuit by Patou.

The Short and sweet tour is structured like a vintage variety show, complete with cheeky references to ’70s advertising and a set that resembles a plucky heroine’s unrealistically chic penthouse apartment. (At the end of the stage’s runway, for example, there’s a heart that transforms into a sunken couch.) Of course, there are exaggerated transitions that showcase the star’s avant-garde style. At the beginning of a “Sabrina After Dark” segment, little Sabrina Carpenter appears at the top of a staircase in her custom Patou look. Styled by Jared Ellner, the outfit features a lace lingerie-style jumpsuit with capri pants and a corseted top with a subtle bow. These include lace gloves that reach above the elbow and a burgundy feather scarf that is immediately torn off the first song she sings. (“Feather”, of course.)

“Oh, don’t make me do it sing,Carpenter drawls before sauntering down the curved staircase to a jazzy rendition of her 2023 hit. The stage lights reflect two types of lace that were hand-sequined in a 60-hour manufacturing process, according to notes shared with Marie Claire from Patou. Her lace jumpsuit is also paired with low-rise, sparkly, doll-like Mary Janes – an ideal complement for both twirling through the choreography and engaging with the production’s retro themes.

The whole moment is very theatrical and self-conscious: Carpenter obviously wants to sing and stand out from her backup dancers and their relaxed babydoll dresses. It’s her tour, after all. I have no real reason to rush into a party in black lace lingerie, but Carpenter’s confidence made me wish I could.

Carpenter’s Patou jumpsuit is complemented by two other revealing looks. She opens the show in a custom Victoria’s Secret bodysuit and suspenders – adorned with 150,000 crystals – and closes the performance in a halter dress that transforms into a matching set when the longer skirt is ripped off at the start of their affair. While Carpenter, on the other hand, has revealed at least three pastel variations of her first and last two looks Short and sweet tour So far, she’s only worn a black lace version of her Patou outfit. However, there is one color-changing detail that those in the floor seats might notice: the delicate bow at the top of her jumpsuit changes color with each performance to match the feather shawl above it.

Carpenter’s lace jumpsuit is her first custom piece by Patou for the tour, led by creative director Guillaume Henry. However, this isn’t her first attempt at wearing lingerie on stage. The singer is known for her corset and lace bustier costumes as well as her playful, raunchy lyrics. (Google their “nonsense” outros if you don’t know what I mean.)
