Rochester Airport named best airport in the USA by USA Today

Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport in Rochester has been nominated as one of the 10 Best Small Airports in the U.S. in USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice Awards. This is the second year in a row the airport has been nominated.

A panel of expert judges nominated 20 smaller airports across the country for this award, with the top 10 receiving the 10Best Readers’ Choice Award. Each of the nominated airports serves a smaller number of passengers, but stands out for its commercial flight options, easy accessibility and unique amenities.

“Whether you’re heading to the heart of the Finger Lakes or the sprawling shores of Lake Ontario, Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) is the perfect home base for an upstate New York vacation. The visually arresting complex features a glowing, iridescent solar roof made of translucent fabric, glass and solar panels, not to mention the stunning Frederick Douglass Legacy Mural. And on the practical side, there’s now an enhanced security checkpoint that can accommodate more passengers,” USA Today said of the Rochester travel hub.

Public voting begins now and ends on Monday, September 23rd.

“Once again, our home airport is being recognized for this national competition for its commitment to providing passengers with the highest quality experience in the industry. Our continued investment in Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport has made it a world-class airport that serves as a gateway to the world for the residents of Monroe County and the Finger Lakes region. Awards like this can help us attract new airlines and attractive travel destinations, so I encourage everyone in our community to show their support and help ROC Airport once again receive this prestigious award,” said Monroe County Executive Adam Bello.
