Rico Dowdle “finds his rhythm” with the best game of his career

PITTSBURGH – Before Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh, neither Rico Dowdle nor any other Cowboys running back had a scrimmage rush of more than 10 yards.

Against the Steelers, Dowdle did this three times and clearly had his best game of his career, likely cementing himself as a starter going forward.

More importantly, Dowdle gave the Cowboys the spark the team desperately needed, rushing for 87 yards on 20 carries. And if that wasn’t enough, he also caught a touchdown pass for the second week in a row, catching a 22-yard pass from Dak for the Cowboys’ first touchdown of the game.

“It felt good. “It was just like I said all along, it’s just about finding a rhythm,” Dowdle said. “We stuck with it. The linemen made holes and we were able to knock it down against a good Pittsburgh defense.”

In fact, Dowdle’s final run of the game was nearly disastrous when he fumbled the ball on a 1-yard plunge for the go-ahead score. Luckily for the Cowboys, Dak Prescott fell on the ball, allowing the offense two more attempts to find the end zone.

Dowdle said it was “like a movie” with the back-and-forth drama and was still mad at himself for fumbling but was glad it didn’t turn out to be game-changing.

Aside from that, Dowdle said the fact that the Cowboys kept giving him the ball helped him get stronger as the game went on.

“It’s always been that way for me,” Dowdle said. I think I’m getting stronger as the games go on and it was just a matter of finding a rhythm. I was fine and they continued to feed me.

Dowdle finished the game with 114 all-purpose yards and 22 touches. Ezekiel Elliott, who also had a big third-down conversion on the final drive, had just six carries for 17 yards
