Richmond BizSense reports: BBQ restaurant moves into Love Shack on Main Street

The full story on Richmond BizSense

Campbell recently leased the space for a Richmond branch of his barbecue concept Bar-Q. In addition to Starlite, the space was previously home to Brunch and most recently SB’s Main Street Love Shack.

Campbell is a native Floridian and said he grew up watching his late grandmother cook barbecue for the family on an open grill.

“It was a normal thing for me, I saw her do it,” said Campbell. “As I got older, I realized it was crazy. She was an old woman tending an open fire and the family would come over for dinner. The older I got, the more respect I developed for it.”

As an adult, he began experimenting with smoking meat for friends and family. Campbell eventually teamed up with Chris Fultz, co-owner of Scott’s Addition’s ZZQ. Campbell said he and Fultz traveled to barbecue competitions around the state in the early 2010s.
