KINGSTON, RI – Devin Farrell scored three touchdowns to lead Rhode Island to a 21-9 victory over visiting Campbell in the teams’ CAA opener Saturday at Meade Stadium.

URI improved to 2-1 overall, while Campbell fell to 1-2 in the first-ever meeting between the Rams and Camels.

The Rams led 7-3 at halftime and stopped the Camels at the goal line just before halftime. URI struck first, taking advantage of a Campbell fumble in their own territory in just four plays. The crowning moment was a touchdown pass from Greg Gaines to Devin Farrell with 4:42 minutes left in the first quarter.

Connor Lytton’s A 34-yard field goal put Campbell on the scoreboard with 6:30 minutes left in the second quarter before URI was at the goal line.

The Rams extended their lead with the opening drive of the second half, marching 77 yards in eight plays, capped by Farrell’s 27-yard touchdown run. Farrell threw a touchdown pass to Marquis Buchanan, giving the Rams their largest lead of 21-3 with 4:59 left in the third quarter.

Sincere Brown added an eight-yard touchdown catch to make it 21-9 for the Camels with 6:30 minutes left.

Campbell outscored URI 348-247, including 211-140 through the air, but scored on two of its four red zone chances in the loss.

Farrell completed 14 of 21 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns, along with 44 rushing yards and another touchdown. Shawn Harris, Jr. caught five passes for 58 yards, while Buchanan had four catches for 48 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, Fredrick Mallay collected 11 tackles for the Rams, while AJ Pena recorded 10 tackles, including two sacks.

Brown was the driving factor for Campbell’s offense with nine catches for 84 yards and a touchdown, while Mike Chandler II ran 41 yards on 11 attempts, the highest performance of his team. Chad Mascoe, Jr. He also completed 22 of 31 passes for 155 yards, while Chandler completed 6 of 8 passes for 56 yards and a touchdown.

CJ Tillman recorded 11 tackles, including a sack, one of four Campbell stops for a loss.

Next up, the Camels will make their long-awaited home debut on September 21, hosting CAA opponent Stony Brook at Barker Lane Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. for the first of six home games.
