REWE opens new hybrid store in Hamburg

The 1,200 m2 site is supported by computer vision and is the second location in the city to use the company’s Pick&Go technology.

Back in July, REWE opened Europe’s largest computer vision-supported store in Hamburg.

After completing its pilot, the location offers all customers a cashier-free experience through computer vision. Those entering the location can choose between four different payment options, the Pick&Go option via app, scan and pay at the self-checkout terminal, computer vision assistance without scanning or the traditional way at the checkout.

The REWE market on Hoheluftchaussee has a sales area of over 1,200 square meters and offers a range of around 20,000 items, deposit machines, a sushi selection and expanded payment options.

Hamburg will soon be the first and so far only city in Germany with two REWE Pick&Go stores. After the launch on Hoheluftchaussee, the second location is currently in test operation after reopening in mid-June.

With over 170,000 employees and 3,800 branches nationwide, REWE Markt GmbH is one of the leading companies in the German food retail sector. The REWE and Nahkauf stores are operated as branches or by independent retailers.
