Restaurant Inspections in Delaware County

Violations and comments on food safety inspections conducted last week by the Delaware County Health Department at liquor licensed establishments. Violations were found in three of the five restaurants inspected:

Cawley’s Irish Pub, 7915-19 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby:

• 2 light bulbs under the hood are broken.

Fava Ristorante Italiano, 1102 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills:

• Not all opened foods have a date on them.

• Food containers are not labeled.

Tommy’s Tavern, 541 MacDade Blvd., Collingdale:

• Food stored in the Baine Marie is kept in Country Crock butter containers.

• Raw eggs are stored in the refrigerator above ready-to-eat vegetables.

• The ice machine at the bar does not look or feel clean.

• Food containers in prep refrigerators are not labeled with common food names.

Most violations are dealt with immediately on-site – usually by displaying or throwing away the food in question and cleaning the food found to be contaminated – but some require follow-up visits.

Delaware County presents the inspections without further comment other than that stated above.

Inspections are listed in reverse chronological order, so Fava Ristorante Italiano’s first inspection is at the top and the follow-up inspection is at the bottom in the Health Certificate section.

Clean bill of health this week:

• Fava Ristorante Italiano, 1102 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills. Comment: Restaurant participating in movie night in Concord Township.

• Chick N Beer, 514 S. 69th St., Upper Darby.

• Mike Johnny’s Sports Bar, 98 N. Fifth St., Darby.

Of the six inspections, five were routine checks and the sixth was a follow-up inspection at Fava Ristorante Italiano.

The Daily times only corrects grossly incorrect spelling, capitalization, abbreviations and punctuation in the reports.

The county conducts many more inspections than those listed above. These inspections occur at places that serve food and do not have a liquor license.

Tinicum Township reports on the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture website.

The following points were listed as inspections:

• Gachi Sushi & Noodle, 8500 Essington Ave., is in compliance.

• Jack Duggan’s, 8000 Essington Ave., Essington, in agreement.

Tinicum is the only one of seven municipalities in Delaware County that does not rely on the county health department, which reports to the state, for inspections.

Government agencies are not required to communicate the results of food safety inspections to the public.
