According to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, Saint Louis center Robbie Avila will be sidelined for the next few weeks with an ankle sprain but is expected to return at the start of the regular season.

The 6-foot-2 man was injured Friday night during Billikens Basketball Night, a public showcase event where fans can meet the players after watching them compete in skills competitions and scrimmages.

Avila transferred to Saint Louis from Indiana State in the spring after averaging 17.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists with the Sycamores.

The move came after Indiana State head coach Josh Schertz departed for Saint Louis at the end of last season, prompting Avila to join him along with his Sycamore teammate Isaiah Swope.

The Sycamores finished first in the men’s Missouri Valley Conference last season with a 32-7 record, making them a strong contender for the NCAA Tournament, but ultimately fell short.

The big man in the goggles was the centerpiece of an Indiana State offense that averaged 84.8 points per game a season ago, good for seventh in the country.

By signing the second-year star, the Billikens want to turn things around after a 13:20 result last season.

Avila will look to appear in blue and white for the first time in the team’s regular season opener on November 4th.
