Redmond police arrest Madras man for breaking into sushi restaurant and RC/hobby shop

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Detectives and officers with the Redmond Police Department have arrested a 34-year-old Madras man on burglary, theft and criminal damage charges after he was accused of breaking into Sora Sushi and Xtreme RC and Hobbies early last week, officials said Tuesday.

Ryan Eugene Gray is accused of crimes that occurred on the evening of Monday, August 19, at the Southwest 21 sushi restaurantst Street and the hobby shop on Northwest Sixth Street, said Lt. Eric Beckwith.

Video and physical evidence, as well as investigative leads, led to a search warrant being executed at one of the two locations in Jefferson County where Gray lives, Beckwith said. Remote-controlled cars and parts were seized during the raid.

Gray was charged last Friday with four counts brought by the district attorney: two counts of second-degree burglary and first- and second-degree theft, court records show. He is due back in court Friday to face an indictment by a grand jury. Jail records show Gray was still incarcerated Tuesday, with bail set by the judge at $25,000.

Judge Michelle McIver said in her order after the hearing that Gray was entitled to a public defender, but due to a shortage of public defenders, none were available to represent him. She ordered the Oregon Public Defense Commission to provide an attorney.

Beckwith said Redmond police have been working with Bend and Madras police, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and the Crooked River Fire Department to “work toward a successful conclusion to the investigation.”
