Red Lobster closes more stores as part of bankruptcy proceedings

(CNN) – Red Lobster is closing another 23 restaurants as part of the seafood restaurant chain’s ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.

They join the more than 100 restaurants that Red Lobster closed earlier this summer.

After the recent closures, the chain will have about 500 stores left – a significant decrease from the 650 it had last year.

Red Lobster is in the process of selling itself to Fortress Credit Corporation.

The lender, experienced in restaurant management, recently provided Red Lobster with a $100 million loan to ensure the company’s survival.

Mismanagement, competition, inflation and other factors led to the demise of Red Lobster, a pioneer in the restaurant industry.

Global seafood supplier Thai Union became Red Lobster’s majority shareholder in 2020 and filed for bankruptcy four years later in May.
