ESPN’s “College GameDay” host Rece Davis has a new No. 1 seed in his rankings of the top 10 college football teams. Davis released his updated rankings ahead of Week 4 of the 2024 season.
Davis no longer ranks the Georgia Bulldogs as his No. 1 team after the Dawgs suffered a narrow loss in their 13-12 win at Kentucky in Week 3. Davis now ranks the Texas Longhorns as the No. 1 team in the country. The Longhorns’ 31-12 road victory at Michigan is one of the best performances by any college football team this season.
Davis is a voter in the Associated Press poll. He dropped Georgia to No. 2 in his rankings. Davis lifted the Tennessee Volunteers to No. 4 as quarterback Nico Iamaleava has been impressive over the past three weeks. The Volunteers face a tough challenge on the road in Week 4 against the Oklahoma Sooners.
Davis ranks lower than most on the Alabama Crimson Tide, which he ranks as the No. 7 seed in the country. Alabama is coming off an off week in Week 4, but has a home game against No. 2 Georgia the following week on Sept. 28.
