Ravens rise to 5th place after first win

“For the first three quarters in Dallas, the Ravens looked like a team that read the power rankings last week and still saw their name within spitting distance of the league’s heavyweights. Lamar Jackson was highly efficient, thanks in part to a great day by his pass-catchers. Derrick Henry was tearing down the Cowboys’ defenders. It looked like 2023 for 45 minutes. And yes, the Ravens won. But Baltimore allowed 19 unanswered points in the final nine minutes, turning a laugh into a real sweat. The Ravens have now been outscored and outscored in two consecutive fourth quarters, and that has to worry John Harbaugh, as this has been a chronic problem for his teams. But the win probably saved Baltimore’s season. Since 1990, 0-3 teams have made the playoffs only 2.5 percent of the time, while 1-2 teams are 10 times more likely (25.1%) to make the postseason.” – Eric Edholm

“To say the Ravens played run-heavy against the Cowboys is an understatement – Baltimore ran the ball a whopping 45 times on Sunday, including 25 carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns by Derrick Henry in his best game as a Raven. Quarterback Lamar Jackson, who had 14 carries for 87 yards and a touchdown, told the media after the win that this was just one step on a much longer journey for the team.” – NFL staff

“Funny enough, every time the Ravens lose or almost lose, I find more about this team that I like. On Sunday, that meant we finally got to see what the offense can do by riding Derrick Henry and giving him the kind of volume he usually needs to warm up and get into the flow of the game. If Baltimore could combine its up-tempo offense and fast-paced play with Henry after they built an early lead, this team could be a real contender for the AFC title. That being said, I’m very interested to see what John Harbaugh does to help Justin Tucker get back into the swing of things. The two were clearly chatting at the end of the game, with Harbaugh trying to encourage Tucker to just focus on winning.” – Connor Orr

“They beat the Cowboys with their running game, but they definitely made it exciting in the second half. The defense needs to step up.” — Pete Prisco

“It seems like someone should have remembered that he (Derrick Henry) used to be on the team. On Sunday, he overran the Cowboys, breaking 12 tackles, gaining 151 yards and scoring two touchdowns on 25 carries. Henry had 45 more yards than expected, according to Next Gen Stats. Lamar Jackson threw just 15 passes (12 completed) and ran for 87 yards. Still, the Ravens gave up 19 answered points in the fourth quarter and nearly blew another late lead.” – Josh Kendall

“I just want to see the Ravens get a normal win once. For three quarters on Sunday, they played exactly how you’d expect one of the NFL’s best teams to play – dominating Dallas on the ground and preventing Micah Parsons from taking over against a leaky offensive line. Then Justin Tucker missed a 46-yard field goal (he’s done, by the way) and a comedy of errors and penalties nearly gave Baltimore the game away. It’s as if the Ravens have never practiced finishing a game. The running duo of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry ultimately decided the game, but Baltimore’s most serious problems aren’t fixed yet. A lighter schedule is coming in October, but this team hasn’t earned the right to relax yet.” – Diante Lee

“The Ravens held up against the Cowboys with Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and the running game, and their defense was good enough to hold on to another late lead in Dallas. They are slowly getting back to their 2023 form.” — Vinnie Iyer

“Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry combined for 238 rushing yards as a tandem and it was as much fun as we hoped it would be. Granted, rolling over the Dallas defense might not be too difficult, but it was still nice to see Henry get going for the first time this year while Lamar made all the right plays next to him.” – David Helman

“Mark Andrews’ performance continues to be odd. He ran four routes against the Cowboys on Sunday with only one target, via ESPN’s Mike Clay, and not a single catch. The Ravens didn’t throw much, but when they did, Andrews was barely involved. One has to wonder if he’s fully recovered from his broken fibula last season.” — Frank Schwab
