Rain delay updates from Comerica Park in AL Wild Card race

The Detroit Tigers are the best team in baseball. In fact, it seems like the weather is the only thing that can slow Detroit down.

The Tigers have returned from a successful road trip that included series wins over the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles. This week they will face the Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox for one of the AL Wild Card spots. As of Tuesday, Detroit is ahead of the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins — both in the AL Central — in the battle for the second Wild Card spot. Winnable series this week should only make that feat easier, assuming games aren’t interrupted too often by weather.

1:00 p.m. ET: The red-hot Tigers will have to wait to begin their final six-game home series, where a full stadium is expected each night. To avoid the rain, Detroit moved its Tuesday game to 1:05 p.m. ET. However, Mother Nature would not cooperate and the game had to start with a rain delay.

The Tigers hope the game goes smoothly soon, especially given that their star and likely AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal is scheduled to start.

According to The Weather Channel, the rain is expected to ease by 2 p.m. ET. The Tigers still made the right decision to move their game to the afternoon, as the chance of rain is higher in the evening. In Detroit, isolated thunderstorms are expected starting at 8 p.m. local time.

We will have more news from Comerica Park soon.
