Queen Creek Council appoints 13 teens to the Mayor’s Teen Advisory Committee

The newly formed committee will provide valuable perspectives to local government and ensure that young people’s voices are heard and their needs and ideas are taken into account.

At the October 2 meeting, Queen Creek Council appointed 13 teens to the Mayor’s Teen Advisory Committee (M-TAC).

The M-TAC was officially approved earlier this year, with the following individuals appointed as members of the founding committee: Amy Boghoussian, Shelby Bonewell, Gabrielle Chambers, Peter Corrado, Taylor Curtis, Christabel Emenim, Madilyn Fisk, Charlie Gonzales, Esther Henderson, Matteo Miller, Taumi Spencer, Tristan Streeter and Dilyn White.

“This is an incredibly exciting and important milestone for our community,” said Mayor Julia Wheatley. “I am so grateful to everyone who submitted an expression of interest form and really wish I could have appointed everyone! Narrowing the pool to 13 committee members was a difficult task, and I hope that those not selected will remain involved through subcommittees and activities. I am very confident that this group of passionate young people will bring an important perspective and I can’t wait to jump in and get to work.”

The committee will provide valuable perspectives to local government, ensuring that young people’s voices are heard and their needs and ideas are taken into account. The appointed members were selected from a group of applicants who submitted expressions of interest forms. They were selected for their commitment to the community, their mission to make a difference, and their ability to actively engage their colleagues.

The committee includes students from a variety of schools and grade levels to ensure perspectives are representative of youth throughout the Queen Creek community. The M-TAC will promote youth empowerment and civic responsibility and contribute to policy decisions.

The term for M-TAC is one school year, with freshmen and sophomores completing two semesters this year to ensure continuity.

Other opportunities for youth include participating in LINK Queen Creek, held every second and fourth Friday evening at the Recreation Annex. LINK Queen Creek is a free opportunity for youth to meet and connect with one another in a positive environment. The new leisure center, scheduled to open in 2025, will have a dedicated youth area and program.
